Contrary to earlier 8Bit Printer Ports such as the [[8bit Printer Port (Paul Bauriedl)|8bit Printer Port from Paul Bauriedl]] , if the KDS software driver has not been loaded the CPC works in 7- bit mode as though the KDS interface was not there. The exact I/O mechanism used by KDS, and differences (if any) between KDS and Paul's printer ports are is unknown.
