Airborne Ranger is an arcade simulation game.

You control a lone soldier, running, walking and crawling through enemy territory. Missions range from rescuing hostages to infiltrating enemy H.Q., and require planning an pinpoint execution.

The action is viewed from a psuedo-isometric viewpoint, and starts with you controlling your supply 'plane, where you can drop kit bags of supplies (ammo, grenades, first aid etc) for use throughout your mission. You must then parachute behind enemy lines and begin your mission.

You can either run in full guns blazing or go stealth- stealth is the better option as the former will see you quickly run out of ammo and become overwhelmed.

A great action strategy game that should be in every Amstrad owner's collection :)

Hello, I'm Dave Campbell, a.k.a. Satchman2000!

I originally hail from Edinburgh, Scotland, although I now live closer to Glasgow due to work. I'm an Oracle Developer to trade :)

My first Amstrad was a CPC 464. I got it for Christmas 1985, and it came with the 12 free 'games' pack from Amsoft. A great start, I played all of them (even Easi Amsword) to death - I still love Roland on the Ropes and Harrier Attack :)

Boxing day we went out and I bought Formula One Simulator and Finders Keepers from Mastertronic, and I was hooked.

I never had the money to upgrade my Amstrad, so it stayed as a stock 464 until I got a Sega Mega Drive, and I've never looked back!

I'm lucky enough to have a 'Retro room' in my house, which currently houses 15 consoles, 2 Spectrums, 2 Amstrads (464 an 6128) and a C64.

Anyway.. thats it for me..!

cheers

Dave

Satchman2000: Robocop on the CPC

Part man. Part machine. All Cop. The seminal playground film of the 80’s, this ultra violent film translated well to many home computer formats. On most it was the common Ocean sideways scrolling shooter (although this was the first to employ the sprites that would later be re-used in Batman: The Movie, amongst others), but the game was great fun to play. Based on the arcade machine, the game saw you take on the roll of Robocop, stomping from left to right in a spree of killing bad guys. The villains attacked from both left and right, as well as the windows above. They attacked on motorbikes, and with chainsaws, shotguns and grenades, adding to the cornucopia of explosions around you as soon as you pressed the fire button to start.

The 8 bit formats differed from the arcade and 16 bit versions in their levels, although the gameplay was largely the same. In between blasting levels, you were presented with various distractions; a photofit section to identify your next target, and the brilliant recreation of the scene where you shoot the bad guy in the nether regions through the womans’ skirt (although you were supposed to hit him in the head!) <more to come>
