Robot PD was a long-running PD library run by Richard Fairhurst. It was the third CPC PD library to be established in the United Kingdom, after WACCI and DW Software.

Robot started off with cassette-only software, but soon moved to disc operation. Among its features were a wide range of software (AMSDOS-based and CP/M, UK and European), eventually numbering around 200 'sides' in total; many original programs, such as PowerPage; and sometimes appallingly slow delivery. Robot was often at the centre of the so-called 'PD wars', along with Scull PD.

Part of the revised (five-digit) Robot PD range can be downloaded from David Cantrell's site.

Introduction
This Firmware was designed to get a better support of RAM and ROM expansions. Looking the future, not the past.

It don't work with BASIC 1.0 and no more support Tape by default (need a ROM to manage it, that allow to improve it as new storages too).

So, the actual target is all CPC with BASIC 1.1 and floppy or HxC drives.

For further information, see the CPCWiki forum discussion regarding Firmware 3.1.

Features
* Display RAM (up to 576K)
* Display CRTC version
* Initialize up to 32 ROM (see note)
* Boot with [ESC] initialize only ROM 0 & 7
* Mouse support under BASIC (see the previous FW test)
* Fix the FR chars table, so all keys are properly displayed.
* CTRL+keys give useful chars

Note: The 32 ROM init actually only work on a real hardware with the Megaflash board. Please, use the default 16 ROM version if you are using an emulator.

If you test it first on WinAPE, you have to know that CRTC 1 always show 2, and no 3rd mouse button support, as CPC+ don't.

CTRL Keys
* ctrl+2 = ½ (half)
* ctrl+3 = ¾ (three quarters)
* ctrl+4 = ¼ (quarter)

* ctrl+a = α (alpha)
* ctrl+b = β (beta)
* ctrl+c = © (copyright)
* ctrl+e = € (euro)
* ctrl+m = µ (micro)
* ctrl+n = ~ (tilde)
* ctrl+o = Ω (omega/Ohm)
* ctrl+p = π (pi)
* ctrl+s = Σ (sigma/Sum)
* ctrl+v = √ (tick)
* ctrl+x = ✗ (cross)

* ctrl+? = ¿ (inverted question mark)
* ctrl+! = ¡ (inverted exclamation mark)
Early pugilistic fare from Amsoft, published under their Amsoft Gold label.
Now enter the ring as a contender for the most prestigious computer boxing title - THE AMSOFT BELT!

From the comfort of your armchair you can partake in one of the world's most gruelling and bloody sports via this superb 3D graphics sports simulation.

The way to the title is long and blood thirsty as you can take on some of the top fighters in the game, each with their own specialities and characteristics:-

MAD JOE
A lightweight; he moves around a lot and throws the occassional jab when under pressure.

QUASI
A bit toughter than MAD JOE. He moves around slightly less and uses a block sometimes/ Offensively, he still sticks to the job.

ROLAND
Very much a non-mover. His training has concentrated on his upper half to the detriment of his dodging capability. He throws a mean upper-cut and a well aimed body blow. He does block but not very often.

MIK HAIL
A well rounded training has made this man pretty efficient in all areas. He is similar to ROLAND but moves as well. He also jabs occassionally.

RONALD
Again an efficient all-rounder. His punches pack quite a blow and he makes use of an extemely powerful hook.

JEF
The best of the bunch - a real champ. He rarely moves but with fists as powerful as his, why should he? The hook is his speciality and if it connects, you basically don't stand an earthly. Don't mess with this guy!

Fifteen rounds with each of these men will certainly test your all round capabilities both in boxing theory and computer dexterity.

The decision to have the action take place from a side-on perspective resulted in better than average ratings for 3D Boxing at the time.

Amstrad Action commented that "the detail on the animation is good although it's sometimes difficult to make out what's going on in the close quarter fighting and whose punches are actually landing. The advantage this has over previous boxing gmaes is the fact that you can have a two player game"

Amtix also praised the psuedo-3D graphics and animation but were more critical of the gameplay feeling that "Things begin to fall down once you start playing the game seriously. When up against a really good opponent, you can end up playing for up to fifteen rounds which can get a bit dull"

ACU never got around to reviewing the game when it came out at first but they did pick it up as part of an overview of fighting games on the machine a year later - they weren't very complimentary: "You never seem to have any close control over what the fighter is doing and pretty quickly you don't really care."
Space Invaders have taken on a 3-Dimensional effect, so you can now step into the future with this exciting arcade game of 3-D Invaders.

Your task is to prevent the encroaching aliens from bombing your laser base.

Use the cursor keys or joystick to move your base. Make sure you are positioned on a horizontal line directly underneath your target before using the space bar or joystick to fire. You are able to move in two directions at once while firing, but remember, there are 8 colour invader screens of increasing difficulty, so go on, test your skill.

This category contains all Role Play Games (RPGs) for the Amstrad/Schneider CPC computer range.

It is to note that this kind of games was a bit un-exploited on Amstrad 8 bit computer.

Mostly because at the time, the best RPG producers were american and japanese...lands were Amstrad didn't make it (sadly)

Yet some few games were ported from ZX Spectrum and/or C64.

American RPG
Most of them are some kind Dungeon and Dragons adaptations.

You can often customise your characters through choice in class and races.

Typical Examplens ?

*Bard's Tale.
*Might and Magic series.
*Dungeon and Dragons games from SSI (Golden Box engine, Baldur's gate, and so on)

Japanese RPG
Most known for it's storytelling full of cinematics and lack of real choices or character's customisation.

European RPG and the Amstrad
Few of them on CPC.
most of pseudo RPG were in fact text based adventure games.

Yet few proper RPG were produced :

*Black Land
*Fer & Flammes (fire and Flames)
*Le Maitre des âmes.
*Le Maitre absolu.

A lot of pseudo RPG were mostly action games with RPG mechanics or theme.

*Thargan.
*Heroes of the lance.

Also it is notable that the interface on the few proper RPG were a bit...old fashionned and lack efficacity in modern standards.

It comes directly from pen and paper Roleplaying games such as the classical Dungeons and Dragons or the British Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (from Games Workshop's famous franchise)
The term "Strategy" comes ultimately from Greek, "Strategia," meaning Generalship.

The CPC range of strategy games include such traditional fair as chess programmes and war re-enactments to futuristic trading simulators.

A truly diverse category, there's something for everyone.

The simulation game or simply game is simulation of various activities in "real life" in the form of a game for various purposes: training, analysis, or prediction. Usually there are no strictly defined goals in the game, just running around, playing as your character. Well-known examples are war games, business games, and roleplay simulation.

Such activities originate in the human prehistory of games deduced by anthropology from observing primitive cultures, where children's games in a significant degree mimic activities of adults: hunting, warring, nursing, etc.

Starting from three basic types of strategic, planning and learning exercises: games, simulations and case studies,- a number of hybrids may be considered, among which are simulation games and simulation games used as case studies.

The comparisons of the merits of simulation games versus other teaching techniques have been carried out by many researchers and a number of comprehensive reviews have been published.

A "shoot 'em up", also known as a "shmup" is a game in which the protagonist combats a large number of enemies by shooting at them while dodging their fire. The controlling player must rely primarily on reaction times to succeed. Beyond this, critics differ on exactly which design elements constitute a shoot 'em up. Some restrict the genre to games featuring some kind of craft, using fixed or scrolling movement. Others widen the scope to include games featuring such protagonists as robots or humans on foot, as well as including games featuring "on-rails" (or "into the screen") and "run and gun" movement. Formerly, critics described any game where the primary design element was shooting as a "shoot 'em up", but later shoot 'em ups became a specific, inward-looking genre based on design conventions established in those shooting games of the 1980s.

For our purposes, we will be considering the earliest defintion (i.e. a game where the primary design element is shooting) as a shoot-em-up! Feel free to head to the forums and debate the merits of each entry if you will but if there's shooting involved - it's a shmup!

This is a list of platform games for CPC computers. See also: List of all CPC games

Platform games are "Mario-like" action games.

Can be called "Platformers". (?)

They must include multiple platform with a mean to go from one to one.

You don't have to actually "Jump"...

"Batman the movie" don't jump, nor "Robocop 1" (almost same engine).
Yet Batman can use his bat-cable and Robocop can take the stairs.

They often have Horizontal scrolling, yet then can also have Vertical or both scrollings.

Traditionnally a platform Shoot them Up is also sometimes referred as a Run and Gun.

Yet some games are in fact both of them indeed.

The main difference between a Shoot them Up and a Platform game may come from the act of... shooting ? Not only.

"Platformers" often display some kind of Gravity mechanism/simulation and multiple levels screens.

They are "seen from aside"... as 3D is not easy on 8 bit system...

Or else you just cannot jump from platform to platforms.

Also such games (platforms) may be mixed with Beat them All mechanism.

But the best Platformers use elements from shooters and Beat'em up/all...

Pure Platform examples
*Jet Set Willy
*Bomb Jack series
*Lode Runner : a classical old example.

Platform shooter examples
*Gryzor
*Midnight Resistance.
*Black Tiger (not the best one...)

*Robocop 2 ( Cartridge ) is indeed more a platform than a shooter. Yet a clever one.

*Dragon-Ninja (Bad Dude Vs...)
Plus System Cartridge

Introduction
The Plus system cartridge is essential to the 464 Plus and 6128 Plus systems because it contains the Operating System, Locomotive BASIC and AMSDOS. Without this cartridge, you cannot use the Plus as none of the system ROMs are contained within the machine (unlike the classic CPCs). This method was used as it meant that it would be very difficult to copy other cartridges (such as games) because the operating system is not present when another cartridge is inserted.

The cartridge also included the game Burnin' Rubber to showcase the Plus range's extra hardware capabilities and to ensure that every user had something to play when they purchased the computer.

English System Cartridge
Contains the Plus Operating System (v4), Locomotive BASIC v1.1, AMSDOS and Burnin' Rubber game. This cartridge is for use with the English keyboard version of the 464 Plus or 6128 Plus. The colour of the label of the cartridge is Yellow.

</gallery>

French System Cartridge
Contains the Plus Operating System (v4), Locomotive BASIC v1.1, AMSDOS and Burnin' Rubber game. This cartridge is for use with the French keyboard version of the 464 Plus or 6128 Plus. The colour of the label of the cartridge is Green. On the back of the cartridge on the right-hand lower corner you can see the letter "F" for French.

</gallery>

Spanish System Cartridge
Contains the Plus Operating System (v4), Locomotive BASIC v1.1, AMSDOS and Burnin' Rubber game. This cartridge is for use with the Spanish keyboard version of the 464 Plus or 6128 Plus. The colour of the label of the cartridge is Blue. On the back of the cartridge on the right-hand lower corner you can see the letter "S" for Spanish.

'Downgrade' System Cartridge
A French cartridge was made which contained the classic CPC Operating System (v3), Locomotive BASIC v1.1 and AMSDOS. This cartridge was made to address the Plus range incompatibilities with some software designed for the classic CPC range.

</gallery>

Patched Cartridges
Due to the annoying 'f1/f2' menu presented on the Plus range, programmers have patched the Plus system cartridges in several ways to remove the menu.

One method was to replace AMSDOS with ParaDOS. This had the benefit of having the ParaDOS disk ROM available without a ROMboard, but it also disabled access to the Burnin' Rubber game.

Another method was to patch the Operating System ROM to skip the menu meaning the Plus went directly to BASIC, much the same as with the classic CPCs. Users can still access the Burnin' Rubber game by using a RSX command (either |GAME, |JEUX, |SPIEL or |JUEGO) as this feature was included in the original Plus system cartridge.

</gallery>

Amstrad CSD
The Amstrad CSD was a system containing a 464PLUS motherboad and an additionnal Mainboard enabling to switch beteween 12 different game (or whatever) cartridges.

The System was supplied with some sort of JukeBox OS cartridge.

Check the Amstrad CSD page for more details.

Downloads
Downloads of the system cartridges are available here. Where applicable, the CPR file is for use in emulators (such as WinApe) and the BIN file is the actual ROM image which can be used with EPROM programmers to make your own cartridges.

</gallery>
