Space Invaders have taken on a 3-Dimensional effect, so you can now step into the future with this exciting arcade game of 3-D Invaders.

Your task is to prevent the encroaching aliens from bombing your laser base.

Use the cursor keys or joystick to move your base. Make sure you are positioned on a horizontal line directly underneath your target before using the space bar or joystick to fire. You are able to move in two directions at once while firing, but remember, there are 8 colour invader screens of increasing difficulty, so go on, test your skill.

This category contains all Role Play Games (RPGs) for the Amstrad/Schneider CPC computer range.

It is to note that this kind of games was a bit un-exploited on Amstrad 8 bit computer.

Mostly because at the time, the best RPG producers were american and japanese...lands were Amstrad didn't make it (sadly)

Yet some few games were ported from ZX Spectrum and/or C64.

American RPG
Most of them are some kind Dungeon and Dragons adaptations.

You can often customise your characters through choice in class and races.

Typical Examplens ?

*Bard's Tale.
*Might and Magic series.
*Dungeon and Dragons games from SSI (Golden Box engine, Baldur's gate, and so on)

Japanese RPG
Most known for it's storytelling full of cinematics and lack of real choices or character's customisation.

European RPG and the Amstrad
Few of them on CPC.
most of pseudo RPG were in fact text based adventure games.

Yet few proper RPG were produced :

*Black Land
*Fer & Flammes (fire and Flames)
*Le Maitre des âmes.
*Le Maitre absolu.

A lot of pseudo RPG were mostly action games with RPG mechanics or theme.

*Thargan.
*Heroes of the lance.

Also it is notable that the interface on the few proper RPG were a bit...old fashionned and lack efficacity in modern standards.

This is a list of platform games for CPC computers. See also: List of all CPC games

Platform games are "Mario-like" action games.

Can be called "Platformers". (?)

They must include multiple platform with a mean to go from one to one.

You don't have to actually "Jump"...

"Batman the movie" don't jump, nor "Robocop 1" (almost same engine).
Yet Batman can use his bat-cable and Robocop can take the stairs.

They often have Horizontal scrolling, yet then can also have Vertical or both scrollings.

Traditionnally a platform Shoot them Up is also sometimes referred as a Run and Gun.

Yet some games are in fact both of them indeed.

The main difference between a Shoot them Up and a Platform game may come from the act of... shooting ? Not only.

"Platformers" often display some kind of Gravity mechanism/simulation and multiple levels screens.

They are "seen from aside"... as 3D is not easy on 8 bit system...

Or else you just cannot jump from platform to platforms.

Also such games (platforms) may be mixed with Beat them All mechanism.

But the best Platformers use elements from shooters and Beat'em up/all...

Pure Platform examples
*Jet Set Willy
*Bomb Jack series
*Lode Runner : a classical old example.

Platform shooter examples
*Gryzor
*Midnight Resistance.
*Black Tiger (not the best one...)

*Robocop 2 ( Cartridge ) is indeed more a platform than a shooter. Yet a clever one.

Platform Beat'em up examples
*Dragon-Ninja (Bad Dude Vs...)

A "shoot 'em up", also known as a "shmup" is a game in which the protagonist combats a large number of enemies by shooting at them while dodging their fire. The controlling player must rely primarily on reaction times to succeed. Beyond this, critics differ on exactly which design elements constitute a shoot 'em up. Some restrict the genre to games featuring some kind of craft, using fixed or scrolling movement. Others widen the scope to include games featuring such protagonists as robots or humans on foot, as well as including games featuring "on-rails" (or "into the screen") and "run and gun" movement. Formerly, critics described any game where the primary design element was shooting as a "shoot 'em up", but later shoot 'em ups became a specific, inward-looking genre based on design conventions established in those shooting games of the 1980s.

For our purposes, we will be considering the earliest defintion (i.e. a game where the primary design element is shooting) as a shoot-em-up! Feel free to head to the forums and debate the merits of each entry if you will but if there's shooting involved - it's a shmup!

The simulation game or simply game is simulation of various activities in "real life" in the form of a game for various purposes: training, analysis, or prediction. Usually there are no strictly defined goals in the game, just running around, playing as your character. Well-known examples are war games, business games, and roleplay simulation.

Such activities originate in the human prehistory of games deduced by anthropology from observing primitive cultures, where children's games in a significant degree mimic activities of adults: hunting, warring, nursing, etc.

Starting from three basic types of strategic, planning and learning exercises: games, simulations and case studies,- a number of hybrids may be considered, among which are simulation games and simulation games used as case studies.

The comparisons of the merits of simulation games versus other teaching techniques have been carried out by many researchers and a number of comprehensive reviews have been published.
The genre gets its name by the games being based around the dynamics of a player-controlled block, called a "bat" or a paddle, which hits a ball towards another player's bat or game specific object.

Breakout-style games are characterized by the addition of a wall of blocks or similar objects, that the player chips away at with the ball as part of the main gameplay. Since the release of the original Breakout arcade game in 1976, there have been notable clones and updates for various platforms. The profusion and notability of such games has been sufficient enough for them to also be referred to by some as a genre in their own right.
1 byte normal (to write to mode 0 screen), followed by 1 byte with pixels swapped, then this repeats.
Finders Keepers is a platform game released by Mastertronic in 1985. It is the first of a series of four games starring the character Magic Knight.

In the game, the King of Isbisima has ordered Magic Knight to explore the dreaded Castle of Spriteland and collect as much treasure as possible, as the King needs to buy a birthday present for his daughter, Princess Germintrude. If Magic Knight manages to please the King sufficiently, he may be considered worthy enough to join the famed Polygon Table.

The Castle is full of objects and treasure - some of which is more valuable than others. There are several traders scattered throughout the Castle, and Magic Knight will need to trade with them to obtain money and buy other objects from them.
Super Cauldron is a platform game that was programmed by Elmar Krieger and released by Titus in 1992.

The music was composed by Christian Lier using Soundtrakker.
All graphics were PC transfers, except of the title screen which was drawn by Harris Kladis (Rex).

It was one of Titus' last releases for the Amstrad CPC, along with Prehistorik 2.

Reviews
Simon Forrester reviewed Super Cauldron in the June 1993 issue of Amstrad Action (issue 93), giving the game an overall rating of 96% - one of the highest ratings that AA has ever given. This two-page review was noteworthy in that Simon wrote it in the form of a poem.

Technical
* Title screen uses "32KB" overscan. It is 47 chars wide.
* Game uses rupture technique to split the screen into a scrolling area and a static status panel area
* Game uses CRTC R5 for smoother vertical scrolling
* Game uses CRTC R3 for smoother horizontal scrolling
* Game uses CRTC R12/R13 for hardware scrolling
* Game screen is 50 chars wide.
* Panel is 44 chars wide.

There are 4 versions that can be selected:
* Standard version
* Special Version 1
* Special Version 2
* Special Version 3

There differences are mainly related to the horizontal sync position, if R3 is used for smoother scroll, and the horizontal/vertical sync lengths.

Standard version
* Title screen has R3=&08 (horizontal sync length = 8, vertical sync length = 16)
* Blue rasters above and below the main text on the start game screen
* Dark red in the main part of the start game screen
* Game background has blue rasters for the background
* R3 switches between &0c, and &05. (vertical sync length = 16, horizontal sync length = 12/5).
* R2=&33 in game.

Special version 1
* Title screen has R3=&08 (horizontal sync length = 8, vertical sync length = 16)
* Black behind start game screen
* Blue rasters in the background in the game
* R3 switches between &0c and &05 for the scroll. (vertical sync length = 16, horizontal sync length = 12/5).
* R2=&33 in game.

Special version 2
* Title screen has R3=&8e (horizontal sync length = 8, vertical sync length = 8)
* Blue rasters above and below the main text on the start game screen
* Dark red in the main part of the start game screen.
* R3 switches between &0c and &8e. It appears R3 smooth scrolling is not used.
* R2=&33 in game.

Special versión 3
* Title screen has R3=&8e (horizontal sync length = 8, vertical sync length = 8)
* Blue rasters above and below the main text on the start game screen
* Dark red in the main part of the start game screen.
* R3 switches between &0c and &8e. It appears R3 smooth scrolling is not used.
* R2=&31 in game.
