Some CPC emulators use Port &FEFE to provide a method to identify a specific CPC emulator. CPC programs could use this ID to detect an emulator and change some of their behaviour (e.g. changing graphic effechts which will not work on an emulator or using special emulator-specific features). Reading from this port returns the Emulator-ID or &FF on the real CPC and on emulators which do not provide this feature.

'''CPCE''' is a freeware Amstrad CPC [[:Category:Emulator|emulator]] for DOS, DPMI and Win32 platforms programmed in 100% assembly language (I286 for DOS and I386 for DPMI and Win32) by [[CNGSoft]]. It's intended to be small but rich and fast but powerful, and features reasonably accurate emulation of standard CPC hardware (Z80 CPU, ROM and RAM, video and audio output, tape deck and disk drives) and expansions (2112 K RAM and 528 K ROM, printer, Dr.Zed's Symbiface 2), support of digital tape formats (WAV, VOC, CSW, TZX and CDT), rasters, many video effects, digital speech, integrated debugger, internal ZIP file handling, drag and drop, game recording and replaying, netplay, YMP (YM music player), CPC to PC (and viceversa) file transfer tools, etc.

The latest CPCE version is 1.90 and it was released in March 8th 2008, right before the retro computer convention MadriSX/RetroMadrid 2008: it improves the synchronization between the IRQ and VSync signals ("Dragon's Lair," "Kat-Trap"), fixes a bug in the FDC emulation (Titus disc protection scheme), improves the Z80 debug search function and the ZIP archive support. However, because of lack of time, documentation and experimentation, several unfinished features were left out until a re-release in March 31st, that gave LPTCPC the ability to transfer extended disc images (and thus allowing many copy-protected discs to be sent through the parallel cable) and enhanced the compatibility of the FDC emulation even further, thus supporting more protected games like "Arkanoid", "Gremlins 2", "World Games", etc.

Cngsoft: Typo: deleted files don't go to USER 255 but to 229 (hex &E5)

AMSDOS is the disk operating system for the Amstrad computers. It allows the computer to handle two 178k single-sided drives. It does not features directories, but instead uses user numbers, from 0 to 15 (and up to 255 with a trick) The disk are 9 sectors and 40 tracks.

AMSDOS also adds 14 [[RSX]] commands to the [[Locomotive BASIC]] command set.

'''CPCE''' is a freeware Amstrad CPC [[:Category:Emulator|emulator]] for DOS, DPMI and Win32 platforms programmed in 100% assembly language (I286 for DOS and I386 for DPMI and Win32) by [[CNGSoft]]. It's intended to be small but rich and fast but powerful, and features reasonably accurate emulation of standard CPC hardware (Z80 CPU, ROM and RAM, video and audio output, tape deck and disk drives) and expansions (2112 K RAM and 528 K ROM, printer, Dr.Zed's Symbiface 2), support of digital tape formats (WAV, VOC, CSW, TZX and CDT), rasters, many video effects, digital speech, integrated debugger, internal ZIP file handling, drag and drop, game recording and replaying, netplay, YMP (YM music player), CPC to PC (and viceversa) file transfer tools, etc.

The latest CPCE version is 1.82 and was released in July 3rd 2007, with a fully rewritten autorun algorithm that looks for patterns ("DIS?", "-*", "*.BAS", "*.BIN", etc.), support for up to 2112 k RAM (after Jarek's superbank mapping method) and assorted bugfixes.

His most quoted excusatio non petita is "English isn't my first language, I apologize for using it so poorly."

He have made a very interesting tool for the CPC, LZ2PACKER, a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-extracting_archive [self-extracting archive]], as seen in the binary [ftp://ftp.nvg.ntnu.no/pub/cpc/games/arcade/jetsetff.zip[JSW2]]. Arnold is a CPC Emulator original written and maintained by Kevin Thacker.

Arnold aims for maximum emulation accuracy across the whole CPC and CPC+ range, as well as the [[KC Compact]]. Different [[CRTC]] types can be selected as well as various other aspects of the emulated machine.

While early versions of Arnold where written using x86 assembly, more recent versions are written in portable C. This resulted in ports for MacOS, MacOS X, Linux, Unix and other platforms. While every port of Arnold has is own native user interface, the emulation core remains the same accross the different versions.
